About Listenbee

The Listenbee Collection is dedicated to the exhibition of art from around the world with a concentration on artists from Africa and the African diaspora. The directors of the collection, father and son team Archie Listenbee Sr. and Archie Jr. have a combined 65 years of art procurement experience. Archie Listenbee Sr. has been a fixture in Chicago’s cultural landscape for decades. He was President of the Board of Directors at the DuSable Museum of African American History during the early 1970s and has been in operations for over 40 years. Archie Jr. has always been involved in the family business but has built quite the resume in Finance, working in the transportation and hospitality industries in several capacities.

Artists

The Listenbee Collection features works by local, regional, national, and a host of international artists in a wide variety of art forms and styles. Our goal is to acquire, preserve, interpret, and make accessible works of art for the benefit of a variety of audiences.

Tribes

Each piece of tribal art is hand carved, passed down from generation to generation, and is an aggregation of the history and the cultural experiences of the people and places they represent. The beauty in these pieces are not only aesthetic but that each piece had a functional purpose in the lives of tribes.
