Enoch Tshabalala

Born in Durban Natal in 1935, his family moved to Johannesburg when Tshabalala was seven years old. His family settled in Soweto when that township was founded.

When he was 8 years old, Tshabalala contracted polio and was bedridden for nine months. When he could finally move his arms, his mother brought him paper and crayons for amusement. Tshabalala started sketching and drawing the people around him, and the birds and trees he saw looking out his window.

To this day Tshabalala has to wear calipers on his left leg. Yet he is happy and contented, married with four children. He works well with all mediums, but prefers watercolor and acrylic.

Tshabalala has participated in many group exhibitions throughout Cape Town and Johannesburg. His work is found in several corporate art collections in and around South Africa, as well as in private collections around the world.
