Bryan Sperry

The art of Bryan Sperry depicts a theme of alienation throughout. Strong lines evoke order. Formulated, robotic and often industrial masks, figures and sculptures dominate the senses yet are slightly juxtaposed by a whimsical line, facial expression or gesture for human emphasis. The combination of these elements result in an expressionistic edginess and contemporary slant on truth and beauty.

Bryan Sperry born in 1968 began painting at age 5 and has continually created works of art with impact since his youth. His natural gift was recognized and encouraged by art professionals in Chicago. He attended the school of the Art Institute. Inspiration and leadership amongst his peers was evident, as well. Bryan founded several venues in Chicago that were cutting edge, visceral and well attended: Art Attack, Hep-House, and Sperry Studio’s to name a few. He was an original founder and enthusiast of Pilsen Art Nation which originated 2nd Friday Art Walk in Pilsen.

Additional galleries that Sperry has shown at include:

Open Door Gallery

Humility Gallery

Corrosive Gallery

Mars Gallery

Eastwick Gallery

Blake Palmer Gallery

As a passionate and driven artist from the renegade school of visual stimulation Sperry has become quite prolific. Several hundred works such as abstract paintings and figurative paintings have been recently accompanied by uniquely energetic, small and large-scale found object sculpture (some audio accompanied) resulting from a risk-taking approach to visual expression. His works have been acquired by private collectors locally, nationally and internationally.

Figurative Paintings

Sperry’s paintings incorporate line, texture, form and color. Strong use of light and shadow with specific even methodical line can result in a dynamic, multi-dimensional image that impacts like sculpture.

Abstracts

The abstract works organically combine free-flowing color with use of gravity and slope. The balance of randomness and controlled illusion creates spatial contrast of imagined objects with infinity.

Sculptures

The collections of found-object warrior sculptures bring life from urban decay and symbolic nostalgia. The bold creatures are dramatic in a tragic-comic, opposing force sort of way that result from playful assembling of highly selective metal and wood pieces.

“I want all of my art to really impact on people’s lives. I like bold color for excitement and really unusual treasures to use in my sculpture that make you walk away feeling better or different or more alive, somehow. My work comes from passion and I hope that it can be received heart and soul.”
